Industrial applications
Technobis Fibre Technologies (TFT-FOS) is working on industrial applications such as blasting, pile monitoring, and other acceleration/high frequency applications. The Deminsys System offers a solution for these high speed applications. There are other aspects of the TFT-FOS equipment such as the ability to produce 3D graphical mode shapes along with strain values which is a confirmation of data and gives the client motion in real time which helps verify movements of various types of structures.
Pile monitoring
IHC Hydrohammer is specialized in design and construction of piling equipment used for the foundations of on- and off-shore mega platforms and installations. You can think of windmill parcs and oil platforms at sea and bridges and megabuildings on shore. One of the recent TFT-FOS projects relates to the piling of huge piles where IHC Hydrohammer is working with. Interesting for Hydrohammer to know is the optimal combination of pile, hammer weight and force. This can be explained with a simple example. If you want to drive a steel pile of 1000 kilograms with a normal hammer of 1 kilogram, you can imagine what happens. The pile will not move at all, while the hammer is bouncing back with the same speed and force! In that case you have not a good combination! It is worth to determine the optimal combination for every pile type.
When 100 piles need to be piled, and you can increase the speed of piling with 10% you can save a lot, especially if you are working off shore where every day can cost hundreds of thousands Euros.
In February TFT-FOS mounted FBG sensors on a 1m20 pole of 5 cm thick steel and connected these with the 4 channel Deminsys interrogator. The hydrohammer hit the pile many times and the Deminsys interrogator showed and registered the impact in the pile with great precision. Due to these measurements an optimal mix of weight and force can be calculated to pile this kind of piles in the ground or sea bed.
